Foxhunting Contest Information

IIn case you have members who are creative with pen, pencil, or brush, you might encourage them to submit entries to The Chronicle of the Horse Junior Art Gallery competition. The following information is from the March 24th issue of The Chronicle.

Chronicle readers 18 and under may submit entries. The deadline is April 18th. Submissions must be related to sport with either horse or hound in any medium (except photographs). Do not send oversized artwork (11 x 14" or larger). If artwork is larger than this, send photos or digital images of the original artwork. Name, address, phone and age must be included with all submissions so they can be properly identified and returned. Only one submission per child is allowed.

The Chronicle's editorial staff will also consider essays and poems by juniors to include with the artwork. All submissions -- art and writing -- must be original creations by the artist. Submissions must be received via U.S. Mail (P.O. Box 46, Middleburg, VA 20118) or via courier (108 The Plains Rd., Middleburg, VA 20118) by the deadline.

Good luck to all!

Horse Management Seminar Feedback
By Joan Smith, DC Manada Creek Pony Club

Just wanted to touch bases with everyone, Renee, Dave and I ventured to Regional HM Seminar yesterday.

It was very organized, had good food, and was very informative! Even after being in Pony Club nine years I was able to get a better understanding of how HM works at the rallies and what they are looking for. Many people in the region are working very hard to make Horse Management a POSITIVE teaching and learning mechanism for our members.

Kudos to Karen Taylor and Ann Newburger for organizing this.

Rating and Standards Clinic

A well attended regional clinic!  Thanks to Burntwoods Pony Club and Kate Pratt for all their work on this program.  The feedback has been very positive and many of our upper level candidates have based their decision to rate or wait on what they gained from this clinic!

Thank you to all the riders that made this possible for the region!

Popular Fans Could Cause Fires
>
Lasko Products, Inc. has issued a recall of 5.6 million Lasko, General
Electric, Galaxy and Air King fans because an electrical failure in the
motors can cause them to ignite.
Widely popular among horse owners, the fans were sold for $10 to $25
at discount department stores nationwide from September 2000 through
February 2004.
Lasko, based in West Chester, Pa., has received 42 reports of fires
possibly precipitated by motor failures, with 7 reports of injuries,
including smoke inhalation and burns. At least 8 of the fires reported
resulted in extensive property damage.
Consumer should immediately discontinue use of these products and
contact Lasko to receive a free fan-protection cord adapter.
